El viernes 4 de marzo, con el apoyo financiero de AMSA - BID dentro del Programa de Recuperación Ambiental de la Cuenca del Lago de Amatitlán, se inició la elaboración del Plan Maestro del Parque Nacional Volcan de Pacaya y Laguna de Calderas bajo la conduccion de INAB y CONAP. Dicha actividad se llevó a cabo en el Salón de usos múltiples de la Municipalidad San Vicente Pacaya. En esta primera reunión se hicieron presentes funcionarios de diversas entidades que tienen injerencia en dicha área, tales como INGUAT, RIC, USETUR, Alcaldia de San Vicente Pacaya, cocodes de San Vicente Pacaya, Calderas, Comité de Guias del Parque, entre otros grupos locales. Estos talleres se estarán realizando por espacio de cinco meses a fin de obtener un Plan de trabajo consencuado y apoyado con las comunidades locales.
El objetivo del Plan Maestro de un Parque Nacional es definir aquellas acciones que potencialicen el objetivo de conservación del área protegida, en este caso, la conservacion de los manantiales que abastecen de agua a las poblaciones locales y de Amatitlán, ofrecer servios turisticos de calidad y la conservacion de la flora y fauna propia del lugar.
